Cell Phone & Technology Policy
No Cell Phones At Camp
One of the greatest benefits of summer camp is the chance to unplug from technology and fully engage with the camp community. In recent years, we've encouraged campers to power down their cell phones and keep them safely stored in their bags during their stay. However, we've noticed an increasing trend of inappropriate cell phone use. To ensure the safety and security of all campers, we have implemented the No Cell phone policy at Camp New Journey.
Our Mobile Technology Policy
At camp, we believe in providing a space where campers can fully immerse themselves in the experience, free from the distractions of modern technology. To support this goal, we ask that campers leave all electronic devices at home, including cell phones, tablets, computers, smartwatches, fitness trackers, e-readers, action cameras, and digital cameras. Single-use film cameras, which can be found in the camp store, are allowed.
Our technology policy is designed to help campers disconnect from everyday life, fostering deeper connections with fellow campers, counselors, and the natural world around them. We recognize that sending your child to camp involves a leap of faith, as you entrust their care to our dedicated counselors. This process encourages campers to develop trust in others, build problem-solving skills, and grow in independence—key factors in developing resilience.
Please ensure that your camper’s cell phone is left in your possession before they arrive at camp. This is a strict camp rule that we expect all families to follow. If a phone is brought to camp, it will be securely stored, though we cannot be held responsible for any potential damage. Parents will be required to retrieve and sign for the phone upon picking up their camper.
